Greatest Kids - Greatest Parents - A Parenting Guide

The greatest kids come from committed, loving parents, in most cases. Kids need to know they are loved unconditionally and know their parents care. Parents need to know what is going on with their kids, try to guide them properly, and give them the edge. You can accomplish this even if you have a full schedule and not much extra time:

Having brought my precious daughter into the world, I have seen a variety of parenting styles - both good and bad. This is a guide for both - to show the overwhelmed how to cope and how to change things to work better, and to give a pat on the back (plus more ways to think about things) for those who achieve their parenting goals. This gives great parents a way to see some things that might not yet have been thought of. I also solicit comments and more helpful ideas for inclusion on the site.

Help kids become well-rounded, more adjusted, more confident, happy, learn better, and more. Here will be topics and tips that most parenting books don't bother to cover, or are off the main topic, but still apply to many or most kids. This information comes from observation, experience, and a multitude of parenting courses and books (weeding out information which didn't seem to be effective).

I feel a need to get more information "out there" for parents to see, and to see themselves in a way they are denying. To help the ones who are failing or are overwhelmed, and to give a bit more to those who are doing fine, even if mainly to offer a pat on the back.

Kids are our most precious resource - we have been entrusted with them, with the charge to take care and help shape them into good humans and citizens. They are our responsibility. Treat them with the respect and wonder they deserve. They are special. Even if you are having troubles with them, they are special. A happy child is usually a well-adjusted child. They are happy when they are loved and cared for.

School Lunch or Send Your Own Lunch?

If your child goes to school, chances are that a school lunch is offered - should your child bring his or her own lunch, or buy at school?

Granted, school lunches have come a long way from when I was eating them, but they have also gone downhill with the invention of processed foods. There isn't much nutrition left in foods that are processed, and there is way too much sugar and sodium in processed foods. Although it is stated that all food groups are represented, the serving amounts and quality aren't usually there. Also - can you be certain your child will eat the entire meal?

A better and more economical approach would be to have your child bring his or her own lunch daily, or even sometimes. If you do this, don't go buy selections of other processed foods. Make the lunches healthy. If your child loves the newest lunch fads, copy them and make your own from more healthy choices.

You can easily save money by buying your own lunch ingredients rather than buying the processed food lunch kits. Always put a fresh fruit into the lunch (not canned - the child needs to eat more healthy foods and not get stuck on sugared, processed choices). Send a fresh vegetable too, like carrot sticks. Use whole grain choices for the bread product, and you can send a different type of protein source if not meat (peanut butter, for example). It's easy if you just start to think about it - if you need ideas or sample lunch ideas, check out our kid's website.
