Got Bad Breath? If you or someone you know has bad breath, it may be able to
be "cured" or may be a symptom of a more major problem. Perhaps you need to see the dentist - your teeth and
gums may be the cause root of your bad breath. Maybe you have digestion problems, and should see your physician. You
might be able to change eating and brushing habits to correct it. To find out more about your bad breath problems,
download the Bad Breath Bible - free! It
has a lot of information that can help answer your bad breath questions. You can be more aware of the foods you
eat, the other things you do that might be able to make a change, or perhaps pinpoint what is possibly a more
serious problem that needs attention.
You
can take a freeonline breath test.
Or get a free
sample of breath spray.

Exercise More
Exercise is good for the heart, good for weight management, good for mental health. Try walking rather than driving,
taking stairs rather than the elevator, etc. Use a bicycle to get around, and ride socially for fun. Once you make a
conscious effort, it becomes easier and more like a habit. You'll start to love the way you feel - more energy,
less pain (did you know that being overweight can cause other problems with pain?).
Take Care of Your Teeth
Brush your teeth 2 or more times every day, and floss each day. After eating or drinking almost any food or drink,
go rinse your mouth with water, swishing it around - it will help knock extra food out, and help agititate the
sugars (even milk has natural sugar in it). It's not a bad idea to play with a wood toothpick, going over and between
your teeth to occupy yourself. Go to the dentist regularly - twice a year is best, but at least once a year.
You can't clean all the plaque off your teeth by yourself, and the x-rays can tell a lot about the health of your teeth.
If you have tooth pain, see your dentist immediately.

Eat More Fresh Fruits and Vegetables
Eat more fruits and vegetables - keep them as close to fresh as possible. For vegetables, try steaming them
rather than boiling (which takes the nutrients away with the water). The more processed foods that we eat, the more
problems we and our health we get. There is little or no nutrition in many processed foods - and they are full of
preservatives and other crud. Eat lots of whole grains, too - and use white flour minimally (it's not good for us).
Stay away from sugar, and soda. It's too easy to down a lot of calories by drinking soda and eating candy - and
you can get so much built into your system - your teeth can even rot while you do a good job brushing!
Self Help For the CRUD Season Feel Better
In this season of the CRUD you might want to try to help yourself
get well before going to the doctor some viruses just have to run
themselves out. If there is an infection you will need to deal with
that at the doctor's. But if you try to head it off yourself, many
times you can keep from getting the infection.
If the below remedies do not help, then call your doctor in case of an
infection. Doing the below will not hurt you (as long as you have no
reactivity to Benadryl or Sudafed or as long as you are not taking
other medications then check with your doctor before doing the
CRUD remedy).
Stay Calm
The best thing for any health situation is to stay calm - it will help you think through the
situation, and not go into panic. For your kids' sakes - stay calm and teach them how to
stay calm as well. My daughter would get scared when she felt like throwing up - so I would just
walk with her to the bathroom and get her into position, talk to her, give her support. I'd tell
her the feeling will pass after she throws up. She might need to throw up again, but after it's
done, she'll feel better, at least for awhile. I told her to rinse and brush her teeth afterwards, and
then got a sand bucket to put next to her bed in case she felt bad later. She quickly learned to
take control, throw up on her own and tell me about it in the morning. She no longer was anxious and
this same behavior followed her into all aspects of being sick. Stay calm and teach others around
you to calm down.
Take your child with you to shots, doctor & dental appointments - be calm and take the appointments in stride,
and you will teach your child to act the same by example.
How to Relax - No Stress
Temporary Relief for Itching:
Did you know you can use common baking soda to help relieve itching? Make a paste with water and spread it on -
it can help with poison ivy or oak, bug bites, etc. You can also use those pre-moistened towelettes to wipe the sap
from your skin immediately after contact with a plant such as poison ivy or oak, or sumac. There is a detergent in
certain types of these towelettes that help prevent the onset of the itching if used in the first 15-30 minutes of contact.

Bite - The Itch Eraser for Insect Bites
Drink Lots:
Don't quench thirst with caffeinated drinks or alcohol - these tend to dehydrate you and make you go to the bathroom. Hydrate
yourself with water. Drink lots of water when working out or when out in the sun - you can lose a quart of water in sweat alone.
Drink lots of water, to flush out your system when sick. Drink warm soothing teas for your own benefit.
Snake Bite
Keep the bite below heart level - elevate the heart area higher than the bite area. Do not apply ice to the bite. The venom
can be driven deeper and damage tissues.
Beat The "Crud"
In this season of sickness and sinus infection here is a great way
to deal with a cruddy cough and stuffed up system. Nearly free
use over the counter medicines. Take a regular dose of Benadryl
(or generic equivalent) in the evening at bedtime, and a regular
dose of Sudafed (or generic equivalent) in the morning. Do this for
several days until you either feel better or definitely have to go to
the doctor. It can work if the virus doesn't put an infection into
your system then you may need antibiotics.
Relief for your back & neck when using a laptop, and eliminate the heat
Laptops are ergonomically awful - the screen and keyboard aren't in the right places to keep yourself
healthy - you have to lean over to work with it, and then there is the problem of heat - which can and does
cause other health problems. One wonderful invention is the LapGenie
- it is an adjustable desk to set your
laptop into the best position it can be. It folds up for easy travel, and has many other uses. Check it out. It's made a huge difference to
me and a lot of people. Highly recommended!
Sinus Irrigation
When stopped up or having a sinus infection:
Use 1 cup lukewarm water and Ό-1/2 teaspoon salt, plus a pinch of
baking soda. Best done when you are in the shower, since it can be a
bit messy. Breathe up the solution one nostril one at a time, plugging
the other one. Then let it drain out. Blow GENTLY to remove the rest.
Do the same with the other nostril perhaps alternating them on each
breathe. You might prefer to use a
bulb (a baby nostril bulb)
- fill it
with solution and gently but firmly squeeze to push the water into your
nostrils, one at a time. Do this several times a day.
Ear Plugged?
Try cleaning the wax out first before going to the
doctor I know, I learned the hard way!
Get a syringe or some sort of gentle squirter
.
Put a drop or two of olive oil in the ear, and leave for about ½ hour - or put a cotton ball in your ears and sleep on it,
then plan to rinse out in the shower.
Then, using lukewarm water, suck it up into the syringe and blow it
out into the ear gently, directing it into the ear opening, WITHOUT
touching any part of the ear (especially not the eardrum)! Do this
over and over until the wax falls out and the water runs clean. You
probably want to do this in the shower or over the sink. If your ear
was plugged up, you should be hearing fine now. For stubborn ears, you might
want to apply a drop or two of oil every day for a week, maybe two, and then
try to rinse out with the syringe. Do this regularly, perhaps monthly.
Fever Control
If you or anyone in your family has a fever which doesn't want to go away, or
is pretty high (or you cannot get to the doctor right away), you should try to cool the person down - use a damp cloth with
cold water and sponge the person down. You should also alternate
his normal dosage of the two
types of pain relievers
acetaminophen and
ibuprofen
(commonly
Advil
or Motrin
)
every 4 hours acetaminophen after every 6 hours ibuprofen (or the shortest interval of either). Use
them in the correct strength for the person's age and weight.
Do NOT give them at the same time -
if you start with acetaminophen, after 4 hours give ibuprofen, then after 6 hours back to acetaminophen, etc. They will not
interfere with each other and he can safely take them, so long as
you alternate one or the other each time. He won't get too much
of either this way. You might want to verify this with his doctor.
Fake Nails
Fake fingernails are highly flammable. Be sure if you use them, to use shorter ones,
be careful of lighters and reaching anywhere near a candle, and be careful when
cooking.
Bloody Nose
Have you seen the solutions at the store for stopping nosebleeds? There is a less expensive, equally
effective alternative for most people - when the nosebleed begins, first try pinching the upper
nose bridge together. If that does not work after awhile (most of the time it will), then get some
product like Neo-Synephrine nasal spray and soak a Q-tip in it. Place the Q-tip into the bleeding nostril and
pinch shut. This product will tend to shrink the blood vessels and allow the bleeding to stop. Ask
your doctor before applying treatment to a child.
Combat Germs
Some doctors recommend using a triple antibiotic, such as
Neosporin
,
and swabbing it inside the nostrils - to help kill germs that enter during
cold and flu season.
Blood Testing
When you are going in for a blood test, of any sort, be sure to drink lots of
water the night before. When you have lots of water in your system it's
easier to find a vein with the needle. If you are low on fluids, the needle
may poke around a lot looking for a vein, and can bruise you.
Sunscreen
Use a sunscreen, even in the winter. The sun is intense in winter, as well,
and you can sunburn your nose on the slopes while skiing. A very handy
way to deal with this is to carry a
Zebug
on your ski pole or on your sunglasses - and keep a small amount of sunscreen
to dab on your nose, ears or face as needed.

Losing Effect?
If your medications or deodorant, or lotion, etc. are losing their effect - it's time for a temporary change. Your body has
built up immunity or resistance to what you are using, and needs a change. Often you can go back to what you were
originally using, but give the change a month or so in most cases. For medications, discuss with your doctor - this often
happens with allergy medications - where you need to give a new medication a try for a bit. Your body builds up resistance to
certain products and gets more tolerant, which in turn loses the effect you are looking for. Your deodorant may not
hide smell anymore - you just need to get a different product for awhile.
