Under the Umbrella of the Hospital Care
When I had surgery, I had to sign documents on the way into the surgery room. The nurse would just shove a clipboard at me, handing me a pen, and asking me to sign a waiver for an anesthesiologist.
I really did not have a choice but to sign it or they would not operate. I just assumed everything was fine, since the hospital had all my health care information.
After some weeks, we began to get very large bills for anesthesiologist’s services.
I tried to find out why and talked to my advocate – since the surgery was under the umbrella of the network hospital their services were considered in the system for that time. So, the bills were sent back to the insurance agency with the explanation. They ended up being paid by the insurance company, eventually.
So, if you get bills that were done under a network care facility but were not in network, challenge them and send them back as under the umbrella of the network system, unless you specifically had the control of the choice. Then it would be your bill to pay.
