My Go-To Spice Mixes
I regularly use certain spices and herbs to flavor up foods, and people always love what I make.
I like to roast Brussels sprouts, potatoes (oven “fries”), broccoli and cauliflower, tomatoes, and other foods. I normally drip olive oil onto the vegetables or toss them in a bowl with olive oil. After placing on a pan covered with parchment paper, I sprinkle my go-to spices and put into the oven.
My go-to spice mix for the above consists of turmeric, paprika, garlic powder, black pepper, and salt. Sometimes I also add oregano, rosemary, coriander, and/or cumin depending on the flavor I want. There are many other choices to add.
People love my oven “fries” and Brussels sprouts.
My go-to spice mix for yogurt, fruit compotes, fruit crisps and pies is made of cinnamon (Ceylon – the real cinnamon), ginger, nutmeg, cardamom, and clove.
It’s easy to make your own spice mixes, rather than buy store-bought spice mixes. I like to make gifts of these mixes. I make my own chili powder mix. The store-bought ones often have other ingredients that aren’t good for you, such as anti-caking substances, MSG, preservatives and such. Some people are allergic to onion, so I cannot to add anything with onion powder for when serving her (and it is in many pre-mixed spice blends).
Spices are good for you, and flavor foods so well. Make sure to buy what you can use in some months because they lose flavor and effectiveness. Learn to use spices and herbs in your cooking. Make your own go-to spice mixes.
