How Did People Take Care of Themselves Long Ago?
There are time tested cures and preventative measures that go back in history. I’ve been taking some of it on, while discovering Ayurvedic methods. Other Eastern practices are intriguing, and I will explore these as well.
My exposure to Ayurvedic practices has actually made a difference.
I do oil pulling every day. I explain it more here. For me, I have no more pain in my teeth. I used to have pus build-up at night, in my mouth, which seemed to come from my teeth. I assumed I had an infection in my mouth or teeth. But oil pulling helped.
I use essential oils, namely frankincense and rosemary. Rosemary has helped my memory, and I sniff it every day. The frankincense is inhaled and rubbed on my wrists and the bottom of my feet. I feel better during the day – I can’t explain but I find a peace, and a calm. I use it in the laundry too. Oh and I use a rag with drops of various oils to repel clothes moths in the closet.
I use spices – mostly turmeric combined with other spices – but I use turmeric pretty much daily.
I use a neti pot with a diluted salt solution. It flushes the sinuses and helps you with fighting infection. It helps clear the sinuses. I no longer have nights of not being able to breathe out of one or both nostrils.
I was going to acupuncture for years to help with pain and immunity issues. She evaluated my tongue before each session to gauge my general health and noticed I do not retain water.
I recently had a session in New York City where a person did touch therapy then poured warm oil over my forehead (the “third eye”) for quite a while. It was supposed to provide more clarity in thoughts and a calmness. It is called Shirodhara.
I have had cupping done to me after surgery to promote blood flow and break up any scar tissue. It was also supposed to relax the muscles and promote the healing with less pain.
I have a gua sha tool that is metal and I can run it along my skin, scraping it gently to promote blood flow to the area, releasing tension and inflammation.
As I try more techniques, I’ll put them up. It looks like the above have been used for many, many years and centuries… and yes, they seem to work.
