Those Produce Tags and Bands

Those tags and twisty ties around your produce makes your food rot where they are being choked.

When you buy grouped produce, such as beets or greens, or something like a celery stalk, there is usually a tag or rubber band around them, to keep them together. If you store them in the fridge like that, the tag will choke off the area it is on and rot the produce under it, which may extend further on either side of the tie.

The first thing you should do is remove the tags and keep the produce in the bag it came in. Or store it another way – there are better bags that keep your produce fresher for longer. Your produce will still keep, but much better that the squished portion the tag is wrapped around. Some tags may be of a material that isn’t good for the produce, or you, as well.

For the small rubber bands that hold produce, invert them and label them for your spice jars – I was buying pre-labeled ones but not all spices were labeled so I noticed the small band and flipped it over. Then I took a Sharpie and labeled the spices and put it around the jar or lid.
