Root Cause or Masked Symptoms?
So often, western medicine (our American doctors) tends to treat the symptoms, but not the root cause of an issue. By masking pain, or making a symptom disappear, the real reason for the issue isn’t addressed. If the root cause is dealt with, then the associated symptoms should disappear, in many cases.
Medicines – how many prescriptions are you taking? Are you on painkillers? Are you on anti-depressants? On antibiotics? Is it for symptoms or for a root cause? Treat the cause, not the symptom, for lasting results.
Try to talk to your doctor about the issues you are having but try to go further to figure things out. A backache may be a masked symptom and may point to cancer, a tumor, kidney stones, or something else. Before taking medications (to mask pain), ask If you can get testing to rule out other issues. If a physical issue is shown in your back that causes the pain, then maybe medication is warranted – for THAT issue. You should look at all options, including physical therapy, surgery, TENS pain therapy, acupuncture, etc.
If you immediately start taking medicines to mask pain – you may not get treated for the cause of the pain, and it could get worse. The root cause may graduate and then you ask for stronger medicine. Sometimes pain needs to be the factor which tells you there is a problem – and the lessening or worsening of pain when getting other treatments may just give better clues of what is going on.
Always try to figure out the reason for an issue or pain. If you treat the reason for the masked pain and masked symptoms, instead of treating the symptom, you can get longer lasting relief by treating the root cause.
