I get massages but they are not the normal relaxing ones, but therapeutic massages. Therapeutic massages work on specific issues – deeper into the muscles and targeted. Therapeutic massage is helpful for loosening muscles and resetting sore or cranky muscles. It gets into deep areas that connect to each other.
I have had both types of massages. The relaxing ones were good for after my daughter was born – my body had gone through the ringer with an over ten-pound baby. I was grateful for the TLC after giving birth.
However, I have had back issues since my 20’s and needed specific, targeted massage to work the tight and sore areas of my back. I was getting therapeutic massage regularly, prior to surgery.
Since surgery, my years of physical therapy have included therapeutic massage. I still have pain even after surgery (I might be stiff or surgery might not have addressed all my issues). I have been going to physical therapy to build up strength, and she also loosens my tight areas with therapeutic massage. It helps in areas, though I might be sore for a bit. It does not get rid of the nearly constant lower back pain.
My physical therapist suggested that I get a therapeutic massage monthly to help work out the tight areas. I have an appointment to start, and the office was hopeful that they could help me.
I always take electrolyte water to drink after physical therapy, any massage and any activity – I’ve been taught well. The electrolytes replenish the minerals lost
