I finally decided to afford to get teeth implants. I lost a few teeth due to cracking by biting on gunshot, for instance . I had a lot of information prior to the first appointment. They even gave me the post-op instructions so I can prepare. My teeth implant procedure is explained below.
I had the surgical appointment. They took two vials of blood and got the plasma out to add in later for clotting and healing which contains antibodies and coagulants (“liquid gold”). The rest of the surgery was mostly no problem except the local anesthetic wore off several times and the pain was intense. They just put more anesthetic in and waited a bit, then got right back in. The last tooth was done with more pain but it was not too bad.
The pain is from drilling into the bone to set the implants into the bone will need months to heal and accept the implant and grow to hold it.
I got an antiseptic mouthwash, prednisone, antibiotics and pain pills. I need to take these medications on the schedule that is prescribed. The pain pills should only be used if needed.
I did not have much bleeding after the first hour when I took off the gauze. The plasma coagulants helped. As well as I am doing what instructions said.
I still get pain two days later but it’s not too bad and much less than the day of the surgery.
I have to use antiseptic mouthwash twice a day to make sure I don’t get an infection. I can gently brush the teeth that are not affected but none near the sutures so not to disturb them and start bleeding.
I was also given a green tea bag – in case I had a “situation” where something caused a bleed again – it would coagulate the blood and clot it to stop the bleeding. It just needed to be moist (so not to stick to the tissue and pull any off) with cool water then leave it on for a few minutes with some pressure until the bleeding stops.
It’s important to do as they tell you in order to have a swift safe full recovery.
Make sure to eat probiotics like yogurt and cottage cheese, because the antibiotics are doing a number on your gut. Continue probiotics for some time beyond the completion of the antibiotics. Do not drink kombucha or soda until you are cleared for it.
I cannot chew on anything for the first week (mainly blenderized soups and smoothies but nothing with tiny seeds, so no berries or seeds). No citrus that can dissolve the sutures. I can have smooth soups at a warm temperature after a couple days. The first couple days need to be cold temperatures. No straws at any point of recovery. At the end of the first week, I am no longer in pain – I only took three of the pain pills. I cannot raise my heartrate so no normal exercises, just slow stretches and slow walking.
On the second week I can chew more as long as it is soft (can be cut with a spoon), but nothing hard or crunchy or citrus or hot until my follow up appointment tells me it’s ok. I’m able to eat warm (not hot) foods and chew soft food with the teeth away from the sutures. I can now do my exercises and stretches and walk at speed. My heart rate can now get raised. I found out that I should not go back to my normal day right away. I did too much exercise and should have phased in. I was so sore from doing too much too fast. SO, since no exercises for 7 days, phase into it – don’t do it all right away.
If you follow instructions the recovery goes better.
My follow up appointment will remove the sutures and evaluate my recovery. From the way I feel with no more pain and sutures still in place, I am confident that I will be cleared for normal days.
