Make sure to go to your regular health care appointments yearly – dentist, doctor (physical), eye doctor, allergist, mammogram, screenings, blood testing, skin check and any other regular doctor or specialist that you need.
This is self-care that you should do make sure to do. Monitoring your health can alert you to issues that you might have and would not know about until it’s too late or much more expensive.
Your eyes might change in prescription or show issues growing behind the eye. Cataracts might be forming.
Your teeth might have a cavity starting, or issues caused by grinding teeth. A dentist might notice something linked to cancer. You might have gum recession and need to figure out what can be done. An annoying notch might be on a tooth and needs to be ground off. There are a lot of issues that can be found at the dentist appointment.
A mammogram should be a regular part of your health checkups when you get to a certain age, if you are a woman but also if a man who notices something of concern.
An allergist can test you for various allergies and also monitor other issues, like a deviated septum (in which case you would be advised not to take aspirin). You might be a candidate for allergy shots or either prescription or over-the-counter medications.
A blood test can show if there are deficiencies or high levels of something which need to be brought down. I have to have my thyroid levels checked yearly to make sure my dedication level is right. At one point I had low B12, but when I supplemented it went too high. Only a blood test would see that.
The physical would check your reflexes, your temperature, your blood pressure, maybe your cognition level, and other things to see if there are things to be concerned about. Your breathing level or oxygen level might be an indicator of more serious issues. All these things should be checked every year in case there is a pattern to look for.
Get your skin checked every year, as well, especially if you spend time in the sun. Skin cancer can be an issue. Some moles might grow bigger and should be monitored. Some other growths or spots might need a biopsy to verify whether an issue or not. I have had various things checked and biopsied and even removed.
I need to go to an ultrasound appointment every year to make sure the leg that had blood clots is checked and also verify the stent is still working that was put in.
So, add health care check-ups to your self-care list and make those appointments.
