My dog has lumps and a couple of them are pretty large. The little ones were not a concern but the big ones I wasn’t sure about, so I took him to the vet.
The vet tested them and said they were fat lumps and have blood vessels running through them, so it would be a major surgery and recovery to remove them.
She said if they do not bother him or inhibit his peeing, pooping or walking, then just let them be. If he has issues due to them, then bring him back and discuss next steps.
She said some dogs are lumpy and others not. She said some lumpy breed is mixed into his mutt DNA. She said no food, no caretaking, no nothing I’ve done could have caused them. It’s just the type of dog he is.
So, since he’s nearly 13, I’ll keep him active and pay attention to any issues. A surgery would be very hard on the old boy. My lumpy dog is still fully functional so until he has issues, I’ll keep him happy and active.
