We just saw Dad. Dad was taken to the hospital after being found on the floor (fell or passed out), and they found he had pneumonia so kept him there for a few days, then moved him to a skilled nursing floor for rehab.
On the day after he was moved from the hospital, we went to visit him. He still thought he was in the hospital – since he was still in a small room with a hospital type bed.
It’s no use trying to change his mind – we told him it’s really a rehab program from being in the hospital to get him stronger. But if he thinks it’s a hospital it’s no big deal. He just needs to get better and finish his antibiotics with supervision.
Since he’d fallen and was found by his medication nurse, we do not know how long he was out. It’s better to have eyes on him to keep him safe. So, we need to figure the next level of care for him so he will be safe. People on the floor would know when he falls and get him help sooner.
He is no longer safe in independent living and needs to go to higher care room. Whether dependent or memory care will be decided soon. It’s sad but his safety is important. Plus, he needs to engage with more people.
We keep calling (the caretakers and Dad) and visiting Dad as much as we can.
